Mixed Media

Mural on the wall outside of Zaftig’s in Coolidge Corner, Brookline, MA.   As one of several artists, I painted the mother and son on the bench, the gentleman in green carrying takeout, and the surrealistic figure on the far right.

Fire

Oil, Thread on Canvas 6 X 4

I took this photograph in Israel.  It is a close-up of a beautiful coniferous.  When I saw the arms of the tree swaying and dancing in the wind, I was moved to shoot some film.

Upon looking at the picture again, I saw the tentacle-like shape of the needles.  Like many moving fingers, I wanted to use color to elaborate the movement and mystery of this tree.

As I kept working with my oil pastels, I realized the relationship between the earth and sea, what appears to now be underwater, was once swaying in the crisp air.

My mixed media pieces differ from my other work because they are far less conceptualized.  Instead I focus on what the form and shapes have to say for themselves, and work from there.
